Usage

Mid Maine Solid Waste Association is a Transfer Station, Recycling and Construction Debris Landfill. The facility is funded by tax dollars and revenue from recycling. It is governed by a Board of Directors, D.E.P. and other government agencies. Our attendants try to keep the facility clean and save taxpayers dollars. If you are unsure about what to do with your waste please ask as the laws and rules change frequently.

We ask that you help us handle the waste in accordance to ordinance and rules.

Users must display a current permit (available at your Town Office)

  • Newspapers & Magazines
  • White Office Paper
  • Cans & Jars

Other Recyclables Accepted

  • #2 Plastic Jugs
  • Rechargeable Batteries
  • Paper Board (cereal boxes. etc.)
  • Non-contaminated motor oil
  • Batteries (please check with attendant)

Items We Cannot Accept

  • Hazardous & Contaminated Waste
  • Antifreeze
  • Paint
  • Gasoline
  • Cooking Oil
  • Asbestos
  • Liquids

Animal Carcasses, Bones or Hides

Green Building is the recycling center

Beige Building is the Transfer Station for household waste. Carpets, tarps, large plastics, hoses and ropes. Please cut these items into 4 foot pieces.

Demolition Area is for asphalt shingles, sheet rock, insulation, pressure treated wood, window glass, etc. NO-paper, Styrofoam or materials that can blow away.

Wood Storage Area-is for wood only. Please separate your unpainted and painted wood. NO-shingles, tar paper, insulation, sheet rock, pressure treated wood, stumps or large pieces of metal.

Scrap Metal Area is for white goods,metal free of glass & liquids, refrigerators, freezers & air conditioners. NO-Paint or paint cans.

Compost Area-is for leaves, grass, clippings, garden waste, etc. NO-rocks, woody plants, wood or plastic. The end product is free to MMSWA users.

FEES CHARGED FOR THE DISPOSAL OF:

  • Tires
  • CFC'S(refrigerators, freezers,air conditioners etc.)
  • Mattresses & box springs

There will be a fee for the following:

  • TV's
  • Computer Monitors
  • Florescent Lights
  • Thermostats
All mercury & lead containing products must be removed from the waste stream and recycled. This law is currently in effect for Commercial Businesses.
